NOVEMBER IN SONGS

Get ready for a long post!

This has been an amazing month of songs, at least for me. There are oldies with which I’ve become recently obsessed, new songs from favorite artists and a few new artists to watch. Let’s go!

If you’ve been anywhere online these days, you’ve probably heard about her and seen this video. I can only say I was shocked to find out she’s only 16 years old! I read someone saying that you have to go through some serious shit to write like this, and I think I agree.

Don’t you know too much already
I’ll only hurt you if you let me

She made an appearance in my September list, and now she’s back! If you were a Nashville (the TV show) fan, you know her. I wasn’t, so her Like Everybody Else song was a pleasant surprise in my Discover Weekly playlist. Now she has a whole EP out and let me tell you, it’s a gem! Her writing really stood out for me and her voice is delicious.

I’ll never be the same
So I’m cutting my losses
I’m not letting you in
Now that I’ve built a fortress

Dodie is probably my favorite songwriter at the moment. Everything she does sounds so sincere and speaks to me so much. I love the contradictory vibe of this chorus, it’s exactly how my mind works — hopeful at times, doubtful at others.

Could you love this?
Will this one be right?
Well, if I’m being honest
I’m hoping it might
Could you love this?
Did you plan to fall?
Well, if I’m being honest
Oh, I bet it’s not that at all

Do any of you watch This Is Us? If you don’t, you should. I’m in love with this show and this story, it’s guaranteed to give me a good cry once a week. This is an original they wrote for a scene in the show, and I loved it instantly. The song and the scene.

Turns out all my mistakes were forgivable
And the time I spent lost was a sign
That all the ink is invisible
If you give it enough time

Little Mix just released what must be the most girl power album in the history of girl bands. I have to confess I’m not really a fan of their overall new sound, but their lyrics are so on point that it’s worth a listen. This one is my favorite, as it’s more in the style I like, but I’d also like to mention I Told You So. Girl friends are the best!

Now it’s me and myself
Don’t need no one else
This happiness was always inside me
But Lord, it took a minute to find me

I recently watched Bohemian Rhapsody, and it was an experience. I honestly urge you to go see it in the big screen while you can because it’s totally worth it. Leaving aside the inaccuracies and criticisms, it’s a beautiful film. Rami Malek is unbelievable. I left the movie theater an obsessed fan — the soundtrack has been on repeat on my Spotify for weeks. I chose this song because it was the moment in the movie that made me cry.

I’ve paid my dues
Time after time
I’ve done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I’ve made a few
I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I’ve come through

I came across Lewis earlier this year and he’s already become one of my favorite male vocalists out there. His voice and his lyrics and his stories really get to me. This one already inspired some of my writing and will definitely be appearing on a future book soundtrack!

I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

And Nina might be my favorite female vocalist out there. She’s been consistently releasing amazing song after amazing song this year. If you haven’t heard of her yet, I recommend you look her up! She’s awesome.

When you’re young and you get your heart broken
And he leaves, leaves the scars open
When you can’t believe it’s over
That’s when you get a little colder

And, they’re here again. The new album came out just this Friday, but I might have listened to it a thousand times already. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet because some songs sound so different. But they’re still so The 1975. This is the last song of the album and the perfect example of how different yet how the same it sounds. I think I’ll end up loving it because that’s just how much of a fan I am.

I bet you thought your life would change
But you’re sat on a train again
Your memories are sceneries for things you said
But never really meant
